Consular Service

Consular Services by the High Commission include:

 

o Facilitating the renewal and processing of Maldivian passports, in cooperation with Maldives Immigration

o Issuing temporary travel documents, in cooperation with Maldives Immigration

o Providing assistance in processing and renewing national identity card, in cooperation with Department of National Registration

o Providing assistance in attestation, births, deaths and marriage registration to Maldivians through relevant authorities in Maldives.

o Issuing documents to facilitate resident visa (student, medical) and visit visa extension, as required from Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka

o Assisting Maldivian nationals and Government officials in obtaining visas to other foreign countries that have diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka

Emergencies

Death of a Maldivian citizen

In the case of any emergency assistance required by a Maldivian in Sri Lanka, please contact the High Commission Hotline on: + 94 76 881 6666

 

Authentication and Attestation Service

The High Commission provides authentication / attestation services for official documents issued by the Government of Maldives.

At least 3 working days are required for notary and authentication services where verification is required from an external authority. The High Commission does not charge any fee for such services.

 

Services:

  • Attest copies of the original documents.

 

  • Issuing an authentication letter verifying the details of a document which is in Dhivehi language (Eg:- Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate)

 

  • Authenticate the signing of a legal document to be used for legal matters in the Maldives. (Eg:- Power of Attorney or an Agreement).

 

  • Issuing verification letter (relationship letter) stating the bona fide status such as verifying your relationship to a family member.

 

High Commission does NOT:

  • Attest to the authenticity of the contents of the document. (Eg:- we verify that a power of attorney is signed by the person, NOT attest the contents of the statement which provides the legal rights to a specific person).

National Identity Card

High Commission provides National ID card renewal service in collaboration with the Department of National Registration (DNR) in case a person’s ID card has expired, is damaged, or is lost.

 

Following submission of Application

-High Commission will assist in obtaining and submitting the biometrics required for the ID card application, to DNR.

 

Collection/Payment

The applicant will be contacted by DNR for payment and collection of ID Card via High Commission or an assigned person.

  • ID Card Application Form
  • Old ID Card (in case of expiry/damaged)

 

Note: The applicant has to be present at the High Commission for the submission
