Tourist/Visit
Maldivians traveling to Sri Lanka for tourism or short term visit are granted an on-arrival visa valid for up to 90 (ninety) days. It is advisable to check entry stamp on your passport, and to be mindful of the visa duration.
When entering Sri Lanka on tourist visa, it is essential to have:
- A valid return air ticket (flying date NOT exceeding the number of days allowed on the entry)
- Sufficient funds to manage your stay in Sri Lanka
- Hotel booking or place of stay in Sri Lanka
A Sri Lankan visa is an endorsement by the Sri Lankan Government. Therefore, the High Commission cannot provide guarantees as to whether a visa will be granted to Maldivians at all times. Nor can we attempt to interfere or influence Sri Lankan immigration policies and procedures on your behalf.
ENTRY FOR EDUCATION
- Its required to obtain and Entry Visa prior to arrival, if you are travelling to obtain a Student/Guardian/Dependent Residence Visa.
Any student studying in any school/University in SriLanka that is registered at the Ministry of Education will get student visa, facilitated by the respective institution. It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to ensure the school which they select to enroll their son/daughter is registered at the Ministry of Education in SriLanka. All students must possess a student visa.
AVOID VISA VIOLATION
Please ensure that you do not overstay or breach the terms of your visa during your stay in Sri Lanka. No matter the type of visa you hold, overstay or breach of visa terms may lead to heavy fines, refusal of further entry or even imprisonment.
In order to avoid unnecessary trouble at police checkpoints or getting detained during raids by law enforcement authorities, it is essential to be heedful of the following points:
- Do obtain a document or a letter stating the status of your passport if the passport is in the possession of any institute or authority such as school, college, university, High Commission or Immigration.
- Be aware of the expiration of your passport and visa, and take necessary action before the expiry.
- When entering Sri Lanka, verify to ensure the entry stamp/chop has been placed on the passport and take notice of the number of days allowed for the stay.
- Before leaving Sri Lanka upon completion of your studies, it is essential to shorten (cancel) your existing visa through the educational institute.
